THE VISION
Welcome to the world of You Were Perfect
From the start, You Were Perfect has been fueled by a bold vision: to create a cinematic universe where every detail matters. Every wall, beam of light, and whisper of sound serves a clear purpose. We focus on building tangible, physical sets that fully immerse both characters and audiences in a deeply emotional world. This approach anchors the film’s surreal tone in something real – something you can feel.
The scale of the production reflects our belief that exploring complex emotions – grief, hope, love, and acceptance – requires a world as psychologically rich as it is visually precise. Through careful set design and detailed world-building, each space becomes a reflection of the characters’ inner lives. It’s a stage where literal and metaphorical realities gently blur, inviting viewers to experience the story on multiple levels.

Inspiration
Inspired by filmmakers like Roy Andersson, Michel Gondry, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Wes Anderson, You Were Perfect embraces a tone of quiet surrealism. Each space acts as a portrait of human feeling – capturing what it means to truly “feel.” The world exists both as a physical reality for its characters and as a metaphor, making it feel uncanny, compromised, or strikingly colourful or muted.
We carefully craft every camera angle, lighting choice, and character movement to blur the line between reality and imagination. These subtle visual cues gently break the illusion of the afterlife setting. This gives the audience a unique, almost subconscious sense that the world they see is not quite what it seems.
Inner world
Among all the spaces in You Were Perfect, Francis’ inner world is the most ethereal. It is a vast, lonely, and empty place that both unsettles and comforts him. Hidden from reality’s gaze, it holds his thoughts, hopes, and fears – visible only to Francis. The only light comes from a distant door he hopes to one day pass through.
This Void Space blurs the line between real and unreal. It has physical elements – the distant hum of god-sized machinery, a stone floor, and a glowing door and beam that inch closer each day.
The void mirrors Francis’ consciousness and evolves with him. At the film’s climax, when Thomas enters, the space gains more shape, light, and finally, color.
Since this space was the hardest to describe on paper, it became a natural choice for the teaser.
